The Region of Attica has proceeded with the procurement of electric boats, which will perform tours in the Attica Riviera, so that tourists can enjoy the unique landscape with a minimal environmental footprint

The regional goal of promoting Attica as a tourist destination 12 months a year, enriched with innovative actions and initiatives, was presented by Regional Governor G. Patoulis at the Choose Greece conference, which took place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism S. Zacharaki.

Mr Patoulis focused on the standard hotel facilities, the excellent climate, the unique gastronomy, the wonderful mountain, coastal and island landscapes, as well as the proposals for health and wellness tourism.

"Attica has everything, it has nothing to envy from the most popular destinations worldwide," he stressed, adding: "In the post-Covid era, Attica is present with its high-quality tourism product." He referred to the efforts being made in order for Attica to turn the page and move into a new "green" era, through the proper management of waste.

"In two and a half years we have covered decades of distances. We are breathing new life into Attica through green development and the largest waste management programme ever, which is taking us from being a laggard to a pioneer in environmental protection".

The regional governor then referred to the many flagship projects, more than 1,000 in number, currently underway, with a budget of more than 2.2 billion euros. He focused on important projects that are being implemented or have been completed and will contribute to enhancing the tourist image of Attica, such as the redevelopment of Mikrolimanos, the complete redevelopment of the Art Gallery building, the creation of the digital Acropolis Museum, the emblematic redevelopment of the Falirikos Bay, projects which, he said, are also incentives for visitors.

In his special care for the promotion of the islands, Patoulis announced the supply of electric boats, which will run tours of the Attica Riviera, so that tourists can enjoy the unique landscape with a minimal environmental footprint. "We are combining 'green' and 'blue' Attica," he noted, while at the same time, "we are investing in the promotion of Attica's unique agri-food products and its unique gastronomy."

Concluding his intervention, Patoulis made special reference to the development prospects of Health Tourism, a "strong card" as he said, which can add a total of 13.6 billion euros to the country's GDP. At the same time, he also referred to the plan to create a Health, Wellness and Greek Hospitality Village in Attica, which will allow visitors to experience authentic Greek hospitality through programmes that contribute to health, with Wellness activities. As part of this programme, he added, the health units will be linked to the tourism units in a single tourism entity.

"We want to create a global health village in Northeast Attica, an area that is growing rapidly," he said.
