Greek Medical Tourism Initiative presented in Brazil

The President of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece(KEDE) conducted a series of meetings in Brazil in the framework of the initiatives undertaken by KEDE with the aim of becoming the central pillar of a national strategy for the promotion of Greek tourism with emphasis on medical tourism. Mr Patoulis met with representatives of the Greek community in Brazil, scientific and business organizations in São Paulo in a set of contacts coordinated by Greek Consul General S. Hourmouziadis and the Commercial Attachant of the Consulate M. Mathioudakis. Mr. Patoulis had the opportunity to exchange constructive opinions with tour operators from Brazil, of the Greek Diaspora, Mr D.Violakis and Mr A. Papazanakis. During the discussion, the need to enhance the tourism programs, alternative tourism,, wellness and medical travel was discussed, as well as and the possibility of cooperation between Brazil and the 1st Grade Local Government to attract more tourists to Greece from Brazil. "The increase in the tourist flow to Greece will be a powerful stimulus for local communities," stressed Mr. Patoulis and underlined the need for the state and the Greek government for a more flexible environment that should boost Greece to be established as a top all year round destination" .

During the meeting of the President of the Municipalities of Greece Giorgos Patoulis, who is also the President of Athens Medical Association, with the President of Medical Association of São Paulo Jose Luiz Gomes do Amaral, the prospects of Greece's development opportunities by the strenghtening of Medical Tourism were discussed, by the Brazilian President presenting the experience of Brazil's Medical Travel growth which has establihed the country as a Medical Travel Destination worldwide in the last decades. Mr. Patoulis invited Mr. Gomes to the International Medical Tourism Conference to be held next June in Kos, "Medical tourism meets the island of Hippocrates". "Our goal is to invite doctors from all over the world to give Hippocrates the oath to his birthplace, an initiative of high symbolic value, which will also have an educational character, as doctors who choose to visit the island will also be informed on the evolution of Medicine through the ages, since the "Father" of Medicinem Hippocrates until today "Science and Local Government work closely together to get our country a strategic position on the global investment map, "noted Patoulis. From his part, the President of the Sao Paulo Medical Association strongly welcomed Mr Patoulis' proposal and stated his intention to help this initiative by mobilizing the potential of the Sao Paulo medical schools, a city that is the most important medical center of Latin America.
